Light Duty Team, India – Environmental Sustainability
When the worst storm that Chennai, India had seen in decades rolled through the city, trees had been uprooted, leaving the landscape barren. In response, Sivaram Iyer and his Light Duty Team of Prasanth Raghavendran, Satyaprakash Tiwari, Sanjaya Gujiri, Vanitha Shree Murali, Sashikanth Dattatreya Rane, and Sanjay Singh decided to take action by spreading the message of greener living space throughout the community. The team organized a cycling rally through the city’s roads from Flexco India to a suburb about 30 km (18.6 mi) away. The LD team, in collaboration with Sri Venkateswara school students in the suburb of Ambattur, planted 111 plant saplings. Students who took part in the planting are still caring for the plants even today and are proud to claim them as their own.
